Kristiyan Velkov, Bulgarian
39 years oldNaval Academy - Varna, Bulgaria, 2001-2006
First English Language School - Varna, Bulgaria, 1996-2001
I currently hold Chief Officer Unlimited License.
I have 4 months experience as a nav.officer on passenger ship (expedition ship), 4 months as a 3rd officer on large cruise ship, as well as 26 months experience as a watchkeeping officer on car-carriers, 17 of them as a nav.officer.
All my previous working experience has been on new vessels with modern navigational equipment. My responsibilities included maintenance of LSA and FFE on board, watchkeeping, preparing of passage plans, keeping up-to-date all the nautical charts and publications on the bridge, maintenance of navigational equipment, mooring operations, dealing with passengers (we had an open-bridge policy on my last ship). In my opinion the experience I’ve got as a nav.officer on board the expedition ship is highly valuable, because there were constant last minute changes in the intended voyages and I had to be always very fast, accurate and flexible to manage preparing the passage plans on time. I’ve also gained a very good ice experience sailing
